CSI: Miami
Ian appeared in episode 2- 05 of CSI: Miami called "The Best Defense" which aired on October 30, 2003. Ian played Ricky Murdoch.
From CBS.com:
Murdoch's family's lawyer produces a .22-caliber weapon that he claims belongs
to Sedaris, which a private investigation firm discovered in a dumpster near the
crime scene, a dumpster that police examined immediately after the crime was
discovered. The CSIs speculate that this is a publicity maneuver designed to
draw attention away from Murdoch. Murdoch's attorney explains the nearly
one-hour gap between the murder of Sayers and Dawson and the placing of the
9-1-1 call by claiming that his client spent the time struggling to maintain
consciousness.
Speedle conducts ballistics tests to replicate the GSR on Murdoch's shirt to
determine that he was shot at from a distance of approximately 3 feet.
Based on this evidence it is clear that Murdoch did not shoot himself. Caine
orders that the partial fingerprint on the ouzo bottle, which has no match in
AFIS, be run through the East Coast Bar Association database and discovers that
it belongs to Murdoch's lawyer, Aaron Schecter.
Caine hypothesizes that Schecter shot his client to save him from the allegation
that he himself was the murderer. When Schecter counters that he would hardly
have shot his client twice, and once so close to the heart, Caine investigates
the possibility of sympathetic discharge, a rare occurrence whereby a trigger is
pulled only once but two bullets are fired.
Salas learns that Murdoch was hoping to open a club across the street from the
crime scene, but was denied a liquor license because of his proximity to Tropos.
Duquesne finds two ultra-fine twisted fibers lodged in the trigger of the
putative murder weapon. They are made of fine wool twisted with silk,
likely from an expensive article of clothing, such as the Italian suits that Schecter wears. Speedle submits a swab taken of Schecter's vehicle to mass
spectrometry and proves that the lawyer's car was on the street when the
cleaner's went past, 45 minutes later than he claimed to have been there.
CRIME SCENE RECONSTRUCTION:
Ricky Murdoch shot and killed Justin Sayers and Brad Dawson in a fit of anger
after the two reneged on an agreement to sell Murdoch their liquor license.
Schecter witnessed the murder and decided to try and protect his wealthy client
rather than turn him in and lose the family account.
