GOOD MORNING AMERICA Interview

Original Live Broadcast Date- January 4, 2005

GOOD MORNING AMERICA- Ian, thank you very very much for being here.

IAN- Thank you for having me.

GMA- So what did you discover on the island ?

IAN- I...I...I'm not sure that I can actually say that and, I swear, I don't really know.

GMA- You just...you work on a need-to-know basis, and the writers...

IAN- Absolutely., ummm, they let us know pretty much right before we do.

GMA- Do you have a theory, though, do you have an idea...it's kind of ...

IAN- Yeah, I mean I think we all have theories. Ummm, I think whatever it is , though...I will say this, it will definitely change what's going to happen on the island.

GMA- Ok, now we're all excited because the series, it's been coming along really well, and you've been showing reruns. We get new episodes starting tomorrow.

IAN- Which people weren't very happy about.

GMA- Well maybe people can catch up or because you do it back to back.

IAN- Yeah.

GMA- So you have new episodes beginning tomorrow and we're going to show a clip from an upcoming episode where you and Locke, you discover something and you're debating whether or not you should tell the others.

(LOST clip is shown)

GMA- I love it because you were staring at the monitor here in the studio.

IAN- I haven't seen it !

GMA- You haven't even seen that clip yet ?

IAN-  No.

GMA- Now, there's so many cast...I mean, Ian, sincerely, it's a terrific cast.

IAN- Thank you so much.

GMA- A lot of you. But when you have so many cast members you don't get a lot of face time. Is it frustrating a little bit ?

IAN- Yeah, I mean...I think as an actor , yes, invariably frustrating at times. But you kind of have to know that and trust that, eventually, yes...you will have that moment, because think of the writers and producers, these guys have a really tall order to get 14 storylines, ummm...and that's difficult, it's really difficult, but you know the way I look at it is I had a paid vacation for 3 months in Hawaii and it all paid off.

GMA- Yeah, we're not feeling too bad fro you being in Hawaii there where it's filmed. It's changed you, you said, a little bit living in Hawaii.

IAN- Yeah, I think it's made...I think it's just made me a better me, really...it's beautiful, it's warm...it's always warm. The people are amazing...the Hawaiian people, we love you. Ummm, seriously, they've embraced us like family, ummm, and...

GMA- And you all have become like a family when you work together like that. I was, we were just chatting before coming on, and you said that you guys, the cast...you'll sit down and you'll watch the episodes.

IAN- Every week.

GMA- Just like we're watching in our homes, you guys are together...

IAN- Every week, whose ever episode it is has to host it at their house. So you're sitting there, it's the coolest thing...it's the coolest thing...you're sitting there in someone's living room and you're looking in this room of the entire cast of LOST and everyone's sprawled out and there are kids everywhere and there are animals and, you know, it's that feeling...it's a huge family.

GMA- That's wonderful. So when you do get on a plane and come back to the mainland...I understand  the last time...

IAN- The mainland...

GMA- Yeah, the mainland. Ummm, people were looking at you a little strangely on the plane, you and Maggie Grace who plays your sister on the show.

IAN- Yeah, that was funny. I noticed...I noticed that there was...maybe they couldn't actually place it but I think it was something that made someone or some people somewhat uncomfortable. about us sitting next to them on this plane.

GMA- Well, knowing what happened when you were on a plane...

IAN- Ironically over the Pacific going to Los Angeles.

GMA- Yeah, I wouldn't wanna be sitting next to you either, Ian. Thank you very much !

IAN- Thank you so much.

GMA- Continued success to you. The new show airs tomorrow. Keep it going.

IAN- Thank you.

GMA- I appreciate that. Come back anytime !

IAN- I'd love to.

GMA- LOST airs this Wednesday night 8 PM eastern, 7 central on ABC
