The WB Press Release for "Young Americans"

Blue blood meets blue collar and town clashes with gown in "Young Americans," a provocative new drama series starring an exciting cast of newcomers premiering this summer to The WB.  Set at a New England boarding school, the series unfolds with the frenzy of a new school year, where kids who come from different pasts and face uncertain futures are thrown together to prepare for the rest of their lives.

Will Krudski (Rodney Scott), a local boy at Rawley Academy on scholarship who can't hide the fact that he's completely out of his element, is assigned to room with Scout Calhoun (Mark Famiglietti).  Scout's charisma, good looks and innate confidence represents everything that made Will want to attend Rawley - to be one of those guys for whom anything is possible.

Both boys are mesmerized by Bella Banks (Kate Bosworth), a luminous local girl who was brought up by her overprotective father who is confident in the knowledge that Rawley guys are only after one thing.  Teenage poetry in motion, Bella grew up with Will and sees him as sort of a brother, while she affectionately teases Scout as being this "Fresh Prince of South Hampton" kind of guy who always gets what he wants.

A student on the fringe of the new entering class at Rawley, Hamilton Fleming (Ian Somerhalder) is edgy, alternative, and the antithesis of what you'd expect the Dean's son to be.  His outsider status attracts the friendship of Jake Pratt (Katherine Moennig), who matches Hamilton in his aloof stance.  Jake is surreptitiously working his way through every prep school on the Eastern seaboard - and harboring a deep secret - just waiting for someone to notice.

Star-crossed loves, scandalous affairs, and culture clashes with local "townies" thread the day-to-day lives of these young adults.  As they shoot their arrows high, going through rites of passage with no parents in sight, these strangers become friends, and along the way they learn about passion, the potential for greatness, the power of love, friendship, trust, dreams and the need to make every moment count.

"Young Americans" was created by feature film writer Steven Antin ("Inside Monkey Zetterland"), who serves as co-executive producer.  Joe Voci and Scott Sanders are executive producers of the series from Mandalay Television in association with Columbia TriStar Television.
